It’s time to break out and make a difference in the lives of Homeless Children. These are the children who only dream and imagine for someone to play with them and provide love, passion and nurturement.
Tragedy, Pain and Grim days arrive often for homeless children. These children have twice the rate of learning disabilities and three times the rate of emotional-behavioral disorders than children who are housed. Sadly, this is the harsh reality of the many homeless children who live in shelters all across the commonwealth. For parents, homelessness is a traumatic experience that leaves them feeling very dis-empowered.
Horizons provides high-quality early education and opportunities for play so children can keep up with their peers. Horizons deliver programs that give families a fighting chance to get back on their feet during times of crisis. My time spent volunteering as a Play Assistant Leader (PAL) for Horizons was the first time I witnessed the hardships and adversities these children and families experience on a daily basis.
I also witnessed true resiliency and how Horizon For Homeless Children made an impact in their lives. The children I encountered during my three years volunteering were strong spirited. I remember seeing these kids’ faces glow when I would show up to my shift to play and hang out with them.
My decision to run on the 2018 Horizons for Homeless Children Marathon team meant so much to me because it was greater than me. The back of my shirt read “Today I Run for Homeless Children” There were so many people who watched me during this process. I want to represent for those children and those individuals who are experiencing such difficult circumstances. I would like to tell them to not give up on their dreams and that anything is possible.
Every Dollar counts and remember that any amount contributed helps the cause. Thank you so much and remember to:
