I have been volunteering as a Playspace Activity Leader at Horizons for Homeless Children for the past three years. In that time, I have come to know and care about many families experiencing homelessness. The kids in the shelters remind me of my own kids. They are kind, eager to please, and fun-loving. Despite the many challenges they face, they have the same hopes and dreams. Their parents love them and want them to lead happy, stable, successful lives. I love the work Horizons does to help support and provide essential resources for these families. I'm honored to run for the Horizons team. Distance running does not come naturally to me, and it will be so hard for me to run a marathon, but it is nothing compared to the challenges the kids in the shelters face. Their postivity in the face of challenge is an inspiration to me, and I will be thinking of them and their families, especially when I stand at the starting line, climb Heartbreak Hill and run toward the finish line!
