I am thrilled and honored to be fulfilling a lifelong dream by running the 2019 Boston Marathon and doing so to support House of Possibilities. The truth is, I didn’t even know this organization existed until a friend called and told me a spot had opened up on the HOPe marathon team. I quickly realized that House of Possibilities was the perfect match for me.
My Aunt Tammy was born with a developmental disability that causes her to be non-verbal and unable to care for herself. Growing up, my brother and I were cared for by my grandparents during the day. Tammy was in her twenties at the time, and my grandmother, Edie, was also Tammy’s full time caregiver. Edie was kind, patient and generous but she was never able to foster close friendships, she never went on vacations, or even out to restaurants. She had to be there for Tammy 24/7, 365. Edie made the best of her situation but she could have used a break. By supporting HOPe, we will not only support people like Tammy living with disabilities but also help give relief to parents of developmentally disabled children and give people like my grandmother the support they deserve!
