On November 4th, 2018 I will be running my 9th marathon. This will be my second time running the NYC Marathon as well as running for Huntington’s Disease (HD). The NYC Marathon means a lot to me because I am raising money to help find a cure that has devasted my family for many years. My goal is to bring awareness to the world of this horrible, and mostly unheard of disease!
Huntington’s Disease is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person’s physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure. HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are approximately 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease.
When I think of HD, my first thoughts go directly to my father. He has lived with HD his entire life as he has lost his Great Great Grandmother, Grand Father, Father, Sister, two Brothers and a niece to this horrible disease. Every day when I lace up my shoes I will think of my incrediable family and RUN!! There will be days that I do not want to run as I will be tired, my back will be sore and the weather will suck but I will always think of them and go RUN! The smallest amount of pain that I will feel will never compare to what they have experienced.
I RUN for my Grandfather, my Aunt Janice, my Uncle Jerry, my Uncle Mervin and my beautiful cousin Linda!!
I RUN for my cousins that are diagnosed and going through this pain today!
I RUN for a Cure for Huntington’s Disease!!
Any donations will be greatly appreciated and no donation is too small to help find a cure! Please check with your company to see if they will match your generosity!
All funds raised will help support HDSA's Mission of helping those affected by HD and their families.
