"I write for those who do not have a voice because they were so terrified. Because we are taught to respect fear more than ourselves. We've been taught that silence would save us, But it won't" - Audre Lorde
That quote speaks to exactly what and why I do the work I do. I stand up, fight and speak out for those who do not have a voice, or have not yet come into their voice.
The fight has become more and more visible, with every news hour, or social media post our lives are under attack. Our children's lives, being a women, a black women, its all under attack. I choose not to be silent in this moment. I choose to fight for the rights of women and girls!
My daughter is 9 yrs old, she will graduate high school in 2026! What will the world look like then? How many times will she use #Metoo, or #Blacklivesmatter or #HandsUpDontShoot? Will I see a facebook post from her or her friends one morning that says "If I died in the custody of the police I did not commit suicide". Will she be penalized through her salary for being a women? Will she have control over the decisions made for her body? "These are not the questions that I should be worried about as a mother". But I am, the world that we are living in is not ideal for our children!
I WILL NOT BE SILENT!
As long as there is breathe in my body, I will continue to fight for justice of our people! I need your support to help continue this fight! We are raising funds to help support our work. 30k by Dec. 1st! It takes resources, to fight policies that are directly impacting our lives. I have a personal goal of raising $1500 and with your support, I know I can successfully reach that goal. The monies that are raised help to support our Job Survival Help Line, Leadership Training in the community, civic engagement and so much more. Thank you for supporting me in the work that I am doing. Its hard and heavy work, but its an amazing feeling to know that you are helping someone who may not have the strength to help themselves.
