My name is Ida Souder. I am 7 years old and in the first grade. I love cats, drawing, drawing cats, singing and anything rainbow colored.
In December 2017, I was diagnosed with a rare auto-immune disease called Juvenile Dermatomyositis or JDM for short. It caused huge rashes all over my body and my muscles to become very weak and sore. I could no longer walk or sit up without hurting. My mom and I rushed from our home in Morocco to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago to receive urgent treatment.
After a week there and five more weeks in the rehab hospital, I was finally able to go to my Aunt Alicia's house where my dad and brothers were able to come visit.
I am continuing weekly medical treatments in Chicago and daily physical therapy and I am happy to say that I am regaining strength and making huge improvements. I am even walking a little! It takes a very long time to recover.
My family and I are walking in the 2nd Annual Walk Strong to Cure JM event on May 6. Our team name is Ida's Rainbow Cats! I am excited to meet other children there with JM, like me!
My goal is to help raise funds to help find a cure for JM (Juvenile Myositis). All donations, big and small, are appreciated.
(All proceeds benefit Cure JM Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for Juvenile Myositis, a life-threatening disease which causes the body’s own immune system to attack healthy cells and tissues. It can affect virtually any system of the body, the heart, lungs, skin, muscles, and more. And there is no cure....YET!)
Thanks for your help in reaching my goal and supporting this cause and most importantly thank you for all of your love and support!

But with support from friends and family like you, we’re getting closer to better treatments and a cure.
Last year, the inagural Walk Strong to Cure JM - Chicago raised over $96,000 and over 1300 people joined the event to show support for all those fighting JM/JDM in our greater Chicago area.
With this great support from families and friends we were able to fund research at 10 prestigious research institutions, helping advance JM research at an unprecendented pace -- including important JM research right here in Chicago a Lurie Children's!
Your gift now will keep that momentum going. Every donation goes straight to Cure JM, and over 87% of all funds raised go directly to research.
Join the team and fight against JM/JDM today!
