We are very much excited to have been granted the lifetime privilege to make it to the Clinton Global Initiative University 2017 and to be able to seek your kind donation towards our cause.
The Clinton Global Initiative University (“CGI U”) is an initiative of the Bill, Hillary & Chelsea Clinton Foundation (the “Clinton Foundation”) that brings college and university students together to turn ideas into action on local and global challenges. As part of the CGI U Commitments Challenge (the “Challenge”), student teams square off to fund their Commitments to Action (the “Commitment(s)”), which are new, specific, and measurable social impact projects within one of CGI U’s five focus areas – education, environment and climate change, poverty alleviation, peace and human rights, and public health. The team that raises the most money for its Commitment (the “Winner) will be recognized and announced on stage at the CGI U 2017 meeting at Northeastern University in Boston on October 14, 2017
I live in a country with over 180 million people out of which more than 100million people live below the poverty line according to the National Bureau of Statistics (2016). These people have limited or no access to affordable health insurance coverage. So it is not uncommon to see individuals and households pay Out-of-Pocket (OOP) for essential health services, delay care, borrow or sell their properties for them to offset their medical bills. Many either choose to stay alive, go below the poverty line, or die from preventable health causes. This consequently worsens the health indices of the country ranging from high maternal, infant and child mortality; low life expectancy at birth and high poverty rate. As it stands, health insurance coverage in Nigeria through the National Health Insurance Scheme is still below 5% of the entire population, covering mainly those in the formal sector. This is however as a result of poor awareness, poor knowledge, superstitious beliefs about health insurance concept and its benefits.
To solve the problem described above, We at HYTEM (RC 1435918), a social enterprise is developing a solution we called I.Insure. I.Insure is an information and service product, providing affordable health insurance information and service to low income earners and those in the informal sector using mobile phone and web.
HYTEM aims to uphold the right to health and ensure adequate health for all especially the poor and vulnerable without having to face financial hardship through technology
OUR TARGET POPULATION The low income earners including (artisans, self-employed, vulnerable groups) who have limited access to healthcare services, bear the brunt of user fees and have no knowledge or information about health insurance. For this set of people, basic healthcare is a luxury and this could be the missing link between them staying alive or living a healthy and prosperous lives.
The donations will go into: -Setting up of our platform (Web, SMS, APP, Social media) -Awareness (videos/short stories of the benefits of health insurance) -Content generation -Toll free call centre -Voice call messages in preferred local languages -Affordable health insurance premium
IMPACT -Millions of people especially the poor will access to needed health care services -Less people will die from preventable health causes -Increased use of health facility -Improved access to skilled medical personnel -Increased productivity and prosperity -Access to essential drugs -promotes attainment of universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals 3 -Promotes health equity .
Thank you for your kind donation as this will help improve access of millions to healthcare!!!
