Time to run another 26, too.
THE QUICK FACTS:
-Running the Chicago marathon, and New York too! (my 5th and 6th)
-That's 52.4 miles total to ensure no one faces cancer alone (26.2 x2!)
-Fundraising goal of $4000, aka 11+ connections between cancer fighters, survivors, and caregivers
-Supporting Imerman Angels, my favorite cause
-The mission hits close to home: my mom is in her fifth year of battling breast cancer (...and she's kicking ass!)
I had first heard of Imerman Angels in high school - when cancer was a distant worry for me and my family. At that time, I was privileged to meet founder, Jonny Imerman, and was inspired by his personal story and mission to find a better way to support those fighting cancer.
Years later, my mom, Theresa, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. When I found out, I was crushed. I felt lost, confused, and, most of all, helpless. Cancer wasn't supposed to touch us and it was devastating to know there was nothing I could do change our situation.
For weeks, I felt powerless while watching my mom's daily scenery change from her private office to the doctor's office, with no way to help. Amidst feeling so incapacitated, I knew needed to do something that would have an impact on the cancer community and all those affected by this devastating disease. That's when I joined Team IA and started training for my first marathon.
Five years and four marathons later and my mom has been through it all: chemo, surgery, radiation, clinicial trials, bizarre side effects... you name it. Through everything, my mom's positive mindset has never wavered and keeps our family and friends hopeful for the future.
The strength and resilience my mother exhibits in her own fight, inspires me to run again and again, as I now begin to train for my 5th and 6th marathons with Imerman Angels.
Chicago is a familiar course but New York's race will be a brand new adventure for me and my family!
Although enduring 26.2 miles (x2!) pales in comparison to enduring a battle with cancer, running with Team IA allows me to serve as an example of strength to my mother, and all those fighting cancer, when they need it most.
Please help me reach my fundraising goal of $4,000 and help Imerman Angels ensure no one faces cancer alone. The funds raised go towards 1-on-1 cancer connections and ensure all lives affected by cancer have a proper support system in place. Any donations are greatly appreciated and go to support an incredible charity with a worthwhile mission!
