The second annual concert by New York City’s Impromptu Music will focus this year on women’s leadership, both at our event and in our chosen charity partner, Sadie Nash Leadership Project. The repertoire at the free concert will feature works written for women or by women, and spans from the twelfth century to the twenty-first, with works by Hildegarde von Bingen and Caroline Shaw as well as an all-women’s performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria, originally written for an all-girls’ school and orphanage. The members of this year’s choir, orchestra, and team of organizers are all women. All proceeds from this concert fundraiser will go to the Sadie Nash Leadership Project.
Founded in 2001, Sadie Nash Leadership Project strengthens, empowers, and equips young women and gender expansive youth to be agents of change in their lives and in the world. On an annual basis, more than 500 young people ages 11-22 participate in our award-winning programming in New York City and Newark. Throughout all our programs - from our flagship six-week Summer Institute to after-school classes on identity and social movements to paid internships at local community organizations to support with the college application process - we build community and critical consciousness. We provide a foundation for our participants to lead lives in committed pursuit of joy and liberation for themselves and their community. Visit sadienash.org for more information.
