Girls on the Run is an after school program for girls in upper elementary and middle school. GOTR inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The program is proven to improve girls confidence, competence, caring, character and connection to others, increase girls physical activity, as well as teach critical life skills. The program culminates with a 5k with thousands of participants in the Chicagoland area. Each girl is joined by a running buddy to be their personal cheerleader throughout the run.
Over 85% of girls in our program receive some sort of financial support to participate, with over 50% coming from low-income communities. Race registration can be a difficult cost for some families. As a member of the GOTR Associate Board and school coach, I want to be sure every girl has a running buddy and we are "in her corner." Having a supportive adult cheering her on can create enormous impact for any child.
I am looking for 3 people to help. Your contribution will make a major milestone- crossing the finish line- that much sweeter for a Chicago girl.
