Friends, I write these words with an unspeakably heavy heart: Amazon CARES has suffered a huge loss. Our beloved founder, Molly Mednikow, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Seattle, Washington on Sunday, October 29th. Together with her family and friends, we mourn Molly’s untimely death…but we also celebrate the incredible impact she made on the lives of people and animals alike.
In 2004, Molly founded Amazon CARES with an ambitious mission to seek “…better health and living conditions for ALL living beings in the Peruvian Amazon region. This includes appropriate care, respect, and protection from cruelty and neglect.”
While I am grief-stricken by the loss of my friend and mentor, we must work harder than ever keep Molly’s legacy alive. Amazon CARES now faces a critical crossroads: without our founder's significant financial support, we are 100% dependent on your donations for survival!
We stretch our precious funds as far as possible, but—in addition to maintenance and operational expenses—our shelter and clinic require a steady stream of food, medicine, supplies, and other daily necessities. If we fail to meet these basic needs, we can’t keep our doors open to medical emergencies, abandoned animals, or spay/neuter cases. We rely on your generous support…now more than ever.
Friends, will you please consider a gift in Molly’s honor? I know nothing would make her happier than to know that her life’s work continues, even in her absence. Your contribution helps us rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home hundreds of dogs and cats who have nowhere else to turn. I would love to put your gift to work for the animals in our care...from the streets of Iquitos, to the safety of our shelter and clinic, and finally, to their new forever families.
Thank you so much for your kindness and support during this difficult time.
With tears and gratitude,
Executive Director & President
