Andre Hatchett is surrounded by family members on the day of his exoneration in 2016. Andre spent half of his life in prison for a murder he did not commit largely due to inadequate defense, a single unreliable witness, and exculpatory evidence that was not disclosed to the defense. He was the 19th person to be exonerated under Brooklyn D.A. Ken Thompson's Conviction Integrity Unit.
Since 1989, 353 people in the United States have been exonerated by DNA testing, including 38 who pleaded guilty to crimes they did not commit and 20 who served time on death row. The Innocence Project provided direct representation or critical assistance in 180 of these cases. Thank you for your support of Team Innocence Project for the 2018 NYC Half Marathon.
