The IISOH is seeking to raise $3.5 Million Dollars to fund our first major acquisition - the bronze statue of ROCKY from the Sylvestor Stallone movie ROCKY III. These funds will also finance the daily operations of the IISOH including staff salaries, rent and utilities, research and development of more educational services that we can share on our website and educational publications including our SPORT IN ART Poster Series. We estimate that this funding will allow us to operate for 18 to 24 months as we work towards the larger endowment goal of 300 million Dollars that will take a lot more time.
The statue of ROCKY is one of three that were cast by artist A. Thomas Schomberg, so we are acquiring ROCKY #3. The first statue is standing in front of the Art Museum in Philadelphia, the second statue was sold to Robert Breitbard and stood inside the San Diego Sports Hall of Champions until it closed in the summer of 2017. It was recently sold at an auction to raise money for the relocation of the San Diego Sports Hall of Fame to a private collector.
The IISOH will acquire ROCKY #3 and plans to display it in front of a museum to be built in central Pennsylvania devoted to the history of sport, physical education, recreation, dance, sport in art and the ancient and modern Olympic Games.
Many other statues are to be acquired, but these must be reproductions of great works that are in museums in London, Rome, New York and other locations. These statues include the Discus Thrower by Myron (London) and the Seated Boxer (Rome) illustrated above.
The IISOH project plans to develop a large Library of sports literature in all the languages of the world to collect, conserve and preserve for posterity the history of sport. We estimate that there are approximately 100,000 books on American football alone, with a similar number on baseball as well as golf. We are seeking collectors who would donate their collection so it can remain intact and used by scholars forever, such as for fencing, wrestling or track and field/athletics.
The IISOH now publishes a SPORT IN ART POSTER SERIES that is designed to promote the subject area of Sport in Art. We encourage artists to become involved in creating new works in photography, sculpture, painting, graphics arts and other media. Illustrated above is our GYMNASTICS poster #1, the first of six that are planned with number two coming in January 2018. The gymnastics series features 3 boys and 3 girls in great images taken by a sports photographer from the Czech Republic. Following these posters we will publish posters on other sports including American Football, Baseball, Track & Field/Athletcs, Basketball, Ice Hockey, Golf, Tennis and many, many more. The IISOH sells these posters wholesale to the sports and retail markets for fundraising events or sheer profit. The benefit for us - we promote Sport in Art as well as a particular sport - worldwide. See more at our website: http://www.sportlibrary.org/Gymnasticsposter.html
The culture of sport dates back to the earliest civilizations such as the Etruscans and egyptians. The ancient Greeks created a series of sports festivals that honored their gods. The most famous was known as the "Olympic Games" and took place in a sacred grove in western Greece. The IISOH will build a reprlica of the ancient stadium at Olympia in order to host summer Games for youth and students as an educational event to teach the history of sport in ancient Greece. The ancient rules will be taught and used with slight exceptions - everyone must keep their clothing on and the "pankration" and wrestling events will have more modern rules to prevent injuries.
The plan includes the development of an extensive sports complex with facilities indoors and out for almost every sport imaginable. The plan is to use these facilities to teach the history and evolution of each sport so that every visitor could either study the history or particpate and actually train for future competition. Sports facilities will be both historical for studying as well as up-to-date modern facilities for training. It is a big plan - help us achieve our goals!
Join us! Become part of the legacy!
When you donate $25.00 or more then you will be given a LIFETIME acknowledgement for your generosity! The larger your donation the greater the variety of acknowledgements from a permanent listing as a "Charter Member" on our website to engraved bricks, brass or bronze plaques at the sports complex to be constructed. There are many "naming opportunities" also that go up to $30 million to put your name on the building forever. FOREVER. These are not one year contracts or renewable donations - naming opportunities are permanent legacies. See more information at www.sportlibrary.org.
Help us get ROCKY #3 and establish our first publicly available offices. For each 20 million dollars that we raise for our endowments we can employ 30 to 32 people. We estimate that we will eventully need over 300 employees. - Help us establish these endowments. This is a long-term project. This is just the beginning!!
