Padre Pio was devoted to helping anyone in need, no matter how much or how little money he had. He founded a hospital in Italy called, “La Casa di Sollievo della Sofferenza” which translates to, “The House for the Relief of the Suffering.” The Hospital continues to thrive today and has grown dramatically since that time, with wings for various ailments, including pediatrics and a hospice wing.
In that spirit, The Italian Cultural Festival Committee has chosen Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children in Boston to donate proceeds from the day’s events. The mission of Tufts MC and Floating Hospital is to strive to heal, to comfort, to teach, to learn and to seek the knowledge to promote health and prevent disease. Funds raised will help support families and individuals with non-health related issues that are not covered by medical insurance, such as providing cab fare home from the hospital, helping pay bills, sending pediatric patients to specialized medical camps during summer vacation, helping cancer patients receive post-surgery prosthetics, etc. We believe Padre Pio’s mission and the mission of Tufts MC and Floating Hospital are one and the same and we are honored to partner with them.
