People who stutter come from all walks of life, but many of us have one thing in common: We often feel like our voices are broken — and in need of a fix.
That's where other people who stutter come in. We believe that people who stutter are stronger when we come together as a community, making ourselves heard and finding pride in the way we talk.
We are a team of adults who work together in to sustain a strong stuttering community. In addition to this annual event, we lead monthly support groups via the National Stuttering Association, work with various organizations for kids who stutter and their families, and partner with local speech therapists and students to advance the understanding of stuttering.
On Sunday, October 21st, we will hold our third annual NYC Stutters Conference, a one-day event by and for people who stutter. Our workshops will cover topics like the disability rights movement, workplace advocacy and community building, with a goal of helping attendees navigate life as a stutterer with dignity, pride and a sense of belonging.
But we can't make this conference a reality without help from our community, friends, and family! We are 100% volunteer-run, and our events are low cost so that support and community can be accessible to all New Yorkers who stutter.
Our goal is to raise $2,500, which will help cover the cost of rental space, AV equipment, workshop and marketing materials, and refreshments. Any amount you can give will go a long way towards helping people who stutter. 100% of additional funds will be directed towards stuttering advocacy events in NYC.
On behalf of our organizers, attendees, and community, thank you for your generosity!
