The #metoo and #timesup movements have empowered people to speak out, they have elevated the conversation around domestic and sexual violence, and they've made it clear that these issues aren't just women's issues. They're human issues, business issues, community issues, and public health issues. Now, it's #timetoheal.
The Center for Disease Control reports that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime and the US Department of Justice reports that in the US, someone is sexually assaulted every 98 seconds. The story in the video above illustrates the complex, manipulative, and insidious nature of intimate partner violence. It is one person's story but it could be many of our stories.
Exhale to Inhale empowers those affected by domestic and sexual violence to transform their lives. ETI uses the healing practice of trauma-informed yoga to empower survivors, while helping communities to develop skills and knowledge to support them.
What we do is more than just yoga. Exhale to Inhale's trauma-informed yoga classes are a tool that help survivors to reconnect to the power and the strength that they have and have always had inside them so that they may create the lives they want to live. Just $25 sponsors a survivor to attend an Exhale to Inhale trauma-informed yoga class, $100 sponsors an entire month of Exhale to Inhale classes for a survivor, $600 sponsors one year of Exhale to Inhale classes for a survivor, and $3600 sponsors one year of Exhale to Inhale classes for one shelter.
"My yoga practice gave me the compassion and release I needed to begin loving myself enough to take control of my life." – survivor and Exhale to Inhale volunteer
The yoga mat is a safe place where people can begin to reconnect with themselves, to practice making choices, express when something doesn’t feel right to them, and figure out what would work better. We are stronger together. Join us in empowering survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
We are stronger together. We hear you, we see you. Join us! #itstimetoheal.
