I'm going to run/walk a 5K to help raise funds for C.A.D.E. (Children with Autism Deserve Education) - a non-profit founded by my long-time friend, Jennifer Larson - in honor of her son, Cade.
I named it "Johnny's Wish" after a Facebook group that I started in December 2012. This group was inspired by the following:
Johnny had received an iPad for Christmas that year. He was so excited because it was the ONLY gift that he wanted that year (prior years had been wishes for things like post-it notes, markers, duct tape, etc).
Johnny told me that he was going to write a letter to Santa to thank him, and let him know that it was exactly what he wanted. He went on to say that he wanted Santa to give away ALL of his future Christmas gifts to children who need them. His only "wish" for the next Christmas was to receive a magical device that he could use "to make sure that bad things never happen to people". Awwwa!!! We had been through a lot and it was the beginning of my divorce. He was well aware that people are often treated poorly (and bullied for being different)....and that made him sad. We then discussed how we are not able to control the behavior of others; however, we can do OUR PART to spread kindness. The goal of the FB group has been to promote autism awareness, help non-profits fundraise and spread kindness in any way possible.
Please consider donating to our fundraiser so that this money can be used to help spread kindness to other children with autism.
Thank you for your support. Much love and many blessings always!
