The Mission of JoyRide Center is to help people with different abilities find more JOY in life through equine-assisted activities and therapies along with functional/life skills education.
The goal of our organization is to make the impossible into I'M POSSIBLE for our clients! We are a community that believes horses help us to learn, grow, and reach our full potential.
Tuition covers less than 25% of the cost for each rider. Your generous donation will keep our riders in the saddle! We are truly grateful for each and every donation.
We provide three primary programs - Therapeutic Riding, Physical or Occupational Therapy using Hippotherapy as a strategy and the JRC Prep Day Habilitation Program.
JoyRide Center clients are people with a wide range of (dis)ABILITIES, and pairing them with horses is a wonderful and natural thing. Not only is it an opportunity for fun, but horses walk almost exactly like people with the same rhythm and stride length, so it is also physically therapeutic. Horses are the perfect companion to help people focus on their specific goals; whether that is to gain strength for walking, to improve their minds with problem solving or to learn how to make friends, all while expanding their spirits by sharing the love of a wonderful animal with a group of dedicated volunteers and staff.
JoyRide's Therapeutic Riding classes have a strong emphasis on developing riding skills. They also provide therapeutic horsemanship, social connections, competition opportunities, educational support and teach daily living skills that are specific to each person. Horses are an essential part of the team - they faciitate learning, motivation and group skill building.
JoyRide Center offers therapy using hippotherapy as a strategy by licensed therapists affiliated with the American Hippotherapy Association This therapy focuses on functional rehabilitative skills such as postural control, motor coordination, gait improvements, communication, congvitive skills, and psychosocial activities. JoyRide provides a truly unique and natural setting to achieve maximum therapy outcomes.
JoyRide Center also offers pre-vocational training in a unique blend of classroom instruction integrated into a worksite. The many facets of JoyRide Center provide rich and diverse opportunities for work-based learning to take place. JRC Prep combines direct instruction with continuous hands-on experience. Goals and objectives are based on each student's needs, and our approach is highly individualized. In order to acheive this level of individualization, we maintain a low student/teacher ratio of no more than 7 students to one teacher, two mentors and specially trained volunteers. Our primary emphasis is on the development of personal independence and employability skills that will enable our students to become productive members of their communities.
