Kardelen Turkish Dance Ensemble has been invited to participate in the 5th Annual Eastern Dance Festival, Medellin, Colombia, August 11-12, 2018. Kardelen will be promoting Turkish culture and dance in this beautiful city located in Andean Mountain Region of Colombia. Medellin is Colombia's second largest city. Funds raised through this campaign will support Kardelen members trip to Medellin.
Established in 2004, Kardelen Turkish Dance Ensemble promotes Turkish culture though Turkey's lively and rich and folk dances. The Ensemble takes its name from a resilient mountain flower, whose name, “kardelen”, means “one that pierces through the snow”. The Kardelen flower, similar to a crocus, survives under hardship and severe weather circumstances; it is the first flower that blooms in the spring, usually emerging through late winter snows. Kardelen members are committed to working for the broader community, and donate a significant portion of revenues to various organizations engaged primarily in the education and healthcare of underprivileged and under-served children. In their struggle to thrive in the face of great adversity, these children best resemble the Kardelen flower.
Kardelen will both perform and hold dance workshops in the Festival Danzas Orientales/Oriental Dances Festival.
