Preston is an active young man who likes playing football, swimming, and going on bike rides. However, there was a time when his insulin dependent form of type 1 diabetes took control of his life and didn’t allow him to do the things he loved. He told his family he wasn’t hungry most days because he didn’t want to eat, in hopes of not needing to be poked and prodded with needles to test his blood sugars 10+ times each day.
The UHCCF medical grant gave Preston his independence again. The funds went towards a sophisticated insulin pump and blood glucose monitoring system, which manages most aspects of his diabetes so he can focus on being a kid again!
