In 2017 San Diego Zoo Global lost one of its' most beloved zookeepers, Ken Morgan. Ken Morgan worked for the Herpetology Department for many years and helped inspire so many keepers and guests with his intelligence, humor, friendship but most of all his smile. He loved all of the people and animals he worked with, but his true passion was the Komodo Dragon. He was dedicated to the animals under his care and even traveled to Komodo several times to work with locals on Komodo Conservation.
AAZK San Diego has decided to raise money in his honor and donate it to the Komodo Dragon Species Survival Plan (SSP). This Komodo SSP fund remains a viable resource to continue this valuable conservation work. The bulk of the contributions come from AZA Zoos.
The collective donations to this fund have enabled the import/export of dragons for program purposes. Institutions have been able to satisfy the USFWS endangered species permit requirements for the enhancement through regular contributions to the fund. Most importantly the funding supports the Komodo Species Plan (KSP) and has filled significant gaps in their research funding and enabled infrastructure repair to ranger stations, the production of multilingual guide books with accurate dragon biology information and provided a science based long term population monitoring of the iconic species.
Please help us raise money for Kenny, a man who will always be remembered!
AAZK San Diego is donating $200 and wanted to give you a chance and to let others donate as well!!!
