I’ve never been one to shy away from an athletic challenge, so when asked to ride the 200 miles from Des Moines to Okoboji on my bicycle all in one day, while raising money for charity, it was a no brainer. I told them “No, are you crazy?” Well that’s what I thought, but the words coming out of my mouth sounded more like, “I would love to. How can I help organize this event too?”In 2007 I sold my motorcycle for a bike that requires a little more effort to “go.” Since then, racing my bike on the weekends has become a hobby for my friends and me. When I was approached with this opportunity to ride my bike while raising money for the BTC200, it was definitely a win-win.
This is my seventh year raising money for this great cause. Help me reach my fundraising goal. The Break the Cycle 200 is a one day, 200 mile bike ride from West Des Moines, IA to Okoboji, IA to help restore victims of human trafficking. There are three phases to fighting human trafficking: prevention, extrication, and restoration. The Okoboji 200 will directly support the effort to restore human traffic victims in Nepal and Des Moines by supporting “safe homes” for former human traffic victims.
