Hi, friends! My family and I will be participating in the Boston 1 Million Steps 4 OCD Walk next month, and Im asking you to support us with a generous donation, as we work to raise research funds and awareness for OCD!
This is really different from my "normal" fundraising (BIG LOVE AND THANKS to my always-supportive LLS donors!!) because this time, Im raising awareness for people like me. I was only recently diagnosed with OCD (like, a year or two ago), and the diagnosis came as a shock to me. Now that Im learning more and more about this neurological condition, I understand that my life has been affected by it for YEARS, but I never knew "it" had a name.
It really kind of hit me hard, to realize that Ive been dealing with "it" and just blamed it on myself maybe being a little "quirky" or "weird"... After having my kiddos, though, things got downright scary and disruptive to my own quality of life, and to that of my close family members. It is scary to learn these things about yourself, and to not really understand it at all.
Feeling the way I did, and still do, I vowed to do my part to help others who may be in my situation, or one like it, and don't know what's wrong, or what to call it, or what to do. I promised to myself that I would be open and honest about it, to the extent that people might be curious or want to understand this condition above and beyond the stereotypical things we think we know about OCD.
I wasnt sure how to go about doing this, but then I learned about this Walk, and decided, here it is! Its my chance to share, possibly educate, and do my best to raise money so that this condition can be researched, studied, and understood a whole lot better than it is today.
Ahh... And so, here we go. Im hoping that you will support us in our journey to 1 Million Steps 4 OCD!! Thanks for listening, and for supporting us with a donation, or even just being open and willing to learn about real-life OCD.
