When I was trying to pick a cause to donate to for my birthday, I came across a question that I never really asked myself as much as I should have: what global issue am I most passionate about? Unfortunately, there are too many to consider— the elephants in Kenya, malnutrition in East Asia, relief efforts for Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. UNICEF works to provide aid in so many ways to so many causes, and I'm happy and excited to celebrate my birthday like this for a change.
UNICEF shows us that we sit here with our perfectly running faucets and warm showers and powered homes while a countless number of children fight to live in their flooded, broken homes and die from waterborne diseases every day. I know I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to taking long showers and disregarding the real value of clean water sometimes. But if I can add to the funds that allow these wonderful, deserving people to live a little bit safer, to live a little bit healthier, and to survive with more hopes of building their futures like they were always meant to, I think this will be a birthday well spent.
Thanks, and any donation is appreciated! I hope you all enjoy making a little difference, because it will truly go a long way.
