Hey! Remember when I dressed up like a crazy unicorn and hit a personal best on the deadlift while raising money for the truly incredible Ali Forney Center, and then a little while later I broke my ankle in a fairly unremarkable way? Well I am a month into training my deadlift again AND once again I am hoping to hit a personal best on the platform while raising money for the Ali Forney Center.
The Ali Forney Center encircles youth with quality services in an LGBTQ-Positive environment. Given the discrimination and harassment that so many of these young adults have faced, they need comprehensive support and encouragement to develop pride and security in their LGBTQ identities. AFC’s clients come from all walks of life. More than 80% are kicked out of their homes for being who they are. The remainder run away due to abuse, neglect, or a combination of rejection and abuse. About half of AFC's clients come to us from other states and some are even from around the world.
As for the deadlift, it is such an empowering lift I won't shut up about it. I even wrote a blog post about the sense of vitality that can be awakened through proper execution.
I smashed my fundraising goal last year and hope to do so this year. I am aiming hiring on both my deadlift and fundraising goals.
