Dr. Linda Buchanan founded the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders in 1993 which was acquired by Walden Behavioral Care in 2017 for whom she now works as Senior Director of Clinical Services. She has just published her first book, writes two blogs, serves as a peer reviewer of American Psychological Association Journals for Practice Innovations and was a reviewer for the APA guidelines for treating eating disorders. She has been married for over 30 years and is the mother of two adopted sons.
Did you know that eating disorders is as deadly as breast cancer (about 10% afflicted die in each) but eating disorders only receives about 1/300th of the money for research and treatment from the National Institutes of Health!
As a breast cancer survivor, I am grateful for the awareness and advances made in this field but as a psychologist who has dedicated the last 30 years to treating people with eating disorders, I am dismayed by the lack of attention this disorder receives.
This year, I am one of the competitors in the Celebrity Dance Challenge, the annual fundraiser for EDIN. Although I am not a dancer, I am compelled to help this amazing organization which works to bring attention to this devastating disorder through education, awareness and early intervention.
