THE LIVE PURPLE MISSION
Prevent substance abuse by addressing mental health and physical inactivity through education, tools and partnerships so we live healthy and active lies.
A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER
This is my story…
A fitness industry leader for over 20 years isn’t what most people think of when they think of an addict. But, I’ve been on this planet for over 40 years and more than half has been spent battling addiction. The ironic part – as a teenager, I fell in love with my career the day I saved an alcoholic’s life using the gift of fitness to free him from his addiction and achieve sobriety. A natural solution to a disease that decades later would play an essential role in saving my own life.
I was born and raised in a state with 12 of the top 20 American towns with the highest consumers of alcohol per capita. Like most, I was never taught the dangers associated with this common habit. I joined the party and started my journey at 13 years old. Decades later that journey almost ended my life. Thanks to the support from many and the inspiration to survive from my son, I’m blessed to be an addict in recovery today and the founder of Live Purple dba Cause for Fitness.
My mission is to do everything possible to reduce the chance of every child in America starting a painful journey that myself and 20+ million Americans have unfortunately had to experience. My goal is to ensure every American teenager like my son understands:
1. WHY physical activity needs to be a part of every human’s daily routine and HOW physical activity isn’t only beneficial to the body, but crucial to functioning with a healthy mind.
2. What feeling “normal" really means, and if they are suffering from disorders like depression, anxiety, difficulties concentrating, etc., they aren’t alone. One out of five of their peers will be diagnosed with a mental health disorder and trained professionals are available 24/7 offering resources and safe solutions.
3. Ways to prevent addiction by explaining the dangers and consequences associated with self-medication and substance misuse and abuse.
This is why I do what I do… why we are a Cause for Fitness.
