Education is a key component to improving the care and lives of children and families living with IBD.
Chronic illness, including IBD, presents the challenge of lifetime disease management. Research has shown that a well-managed chronic illness is often dependent on accessing the right resources. These resources give children and families the lifelong skills with which to manage their adult care and see significantly improved outcomes.
Navigating a child's Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis care can be very difficult and especially stressful for families living with IBD. An added stressor is the overload of IBD related information available via the internet. Many times this information can be unverified and can have the potential to do more harm than good.
Five years ago, the Foundation designed and developed the first IBD specific patient information website with a soley pediatric focus to meet this specific need.
Through the trusted, comprehensive and solely pediatric focused IBD information, tools and resources offered on pedsibd.org, parents and children can find with a comprehensive picture of living with IBD.
Most importantly, and this comes from parents directly, the website provides information that opens and improves dialogue with children's' caregivers.
To date, we have provided trusted, up to date information to thousands of families living with IBD, fulfilling the cornerstone of our mission: to improve lives through education.
Please help us to maintain our continued commitment to the website, meet the over 100 personal information requests annually and to expand our online programming. New (and exciting!) projects include an IBD gaming app to teach good disease management skills and an IBD specific mind-body stress reducing program for the whole family.
We are a very small 501c3 Foundation with minimal overhead thanks to tireless volunteer efforts with our main funding source consisting of individuals like you. Without your gift and support, and because of a major site redesign in 2017 to improve site navigation, social sharing and mobile platform viewing, we will be forced to turn away most personal information requests and to put off vital new programming indefinitely.
Our goal is small and all gifts go directly to the website and new programming needs. Please join us in helping children and families live better with IBD!
