For those of you who know me well, you know that the past two years have been financially tough. Which was part of the reason that in 2016 I vowed that I would never pay to run a race again. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy the camaraderie and energy that comes with a big race. But come on...I mean really. Why pay to suck at something?
I don't run. I pretend to run. I'm slow. My form is poor. I'm never going to PR. People probably see me running and think, "Oh man, that's gotta hurt." But here's the deal... I'm gonna do the Detroit half marathon thing again. (And no, it's not so I can flirt with the customs officers on the Canadian side. Though I'm not saying I won't.)
This time I'm running for a cause. So here's what's up: Michigan ranks among the worst in the Nation for sex trafficking. Human trafficking is not just a global issue, it’s very much local. It’s not just a Detroit problem, it’s an “in your own backyard” problem. A Fenton, Michigan problem.
Love Runs is an organization that raises money to prevent, rescue, and restore the lives of victims. So this is my appeal-- You make a donation and I'll hit the bricks. I'll be running 13.1 miles. (Plus countless miles leading up to the race.) How about $13.10? If I can get 75 people to donate $13.10, that'll add up to $1,000!
Will you do it? I'm not gonna quit asking until you do.
