Cheese was rescued by Lucky Dog from Texas in September after Hurricane Harvey hit the state. Cheese came to Lucky Dog with a fractured tibia in his left behind leg. He has had a cast on his leg since early September which required weekly changes and biweekly x-rays to monitor progress. At one point, the skin under the cast became badly infected and had to be cleaned with antiseptic solution and treated with antibacterial ointment. He has also been treated with antibiotics and pain medicine. Through it all, Cheese has been a resilient and sweet puppy. So much so, I adopted him two weeks ago. The prognosis at the time was that the cast would be on for 1-2 weeks more. Unfortunately, when the cast was to be permanently removed a week ago, the vet noticed he was still not putting pressure on this leg and that it could be caused by a problem with his hip. New x-rays were taken and sadly, the hip had been broken too. Cheese will now need a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery. Because he is still small, he should do very well but he is facing several more weeks of pain, recovery and rehabilitation. It will require him tohave additional x-rays and prescriptions for antibiotics and pain medicine, all of which was not expected. Cheese still gives kisses even when hobbling around on only 3 legs. He tries so hard to smile even when you see how painful it is when tries to sit upright. Any little bit helps and would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!
