Hello and thank you all for coming to my page! I am excited to share my journey to the 2019 Boston Marathon with you, as well as why Make-A-Wish is so important to me. Please continue to check back for updates on my training and fundraising to meet our $15,000 goal!
Make-A-Wish has made it their mission to strengthen and empower critically ill children by granting them one wish. Bringing hope to children where hope may be scarce is such a beautiful and magical thing. I began working with Make-A-Wish in 2006 and have continued to raise funds on their behalf for these past twelve years. Upon opening my Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation branch in Auburn, MA in 2007, I set a goal to donate a minimum of $1,000 monthly from the proceeds of closed loans. I’m overjoyed that I have not only met my goal, but I have been able to increase my monthly minimum in the recent years. Additional funds are continually raised through annual client appreciation events held at the DCU Center in support of Make-A-Wish as well as running in road races. In 2016, I partnered with Make-A-Wish on two more occasions for the First Annual Fairway Mortgage “Walk, Run, & Roll 5K for Wishes” and then for my first Trailblaze Challenge in which my team and I hiked 30 miles in one day. Most recently, my Fairway office sponsored a child for Make-A-Wish and had a “Sendoff Party” with balloons, cake and luggage filled with gifts for her Disney Cruise! In years past, one wish averaged $6,000 and now averages $10,000.
Through my collaborative efforts over the past twelve years, I have raised funds in excess of $175,000 (and counting) thus granting wishes to twenty-three children! As some of you may know, Make-A-Wish is near and dear to my heart because I personally saw the magnitude of what a granted wish can do when my cousin, Jake Hagerty, received his wish while battling Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Jake was a bright, caring, quick-witted young man who loved to live through his music. Make-A-Wish provided Jake with a specialized computer and tools to allow him to access his music, movies, social media, etc. with greater ease from his wheelchair. I saw how Jake’s wish brought him additional joy and I strive to make that happen for as many children as I can. My goal is to help raise money while building awareness that a wish granted to a child in need brings happiness, hope and memories to last each child and their families a lifetime.
Helping make wishes come true for children battling critical illnesses has been a truly rewarding opportunity and I am privileged to continue to fundraise on their behalf and in Jake’s memory. Please remember that none of this is possible without you! 100% of donations will go directly to Make-A-Wish to help continue their mission. Please share this link to my fundraising page with friends/ family who may have personal experience or feel close to the cause and may want to follow my journey.
Hope to see you all out there on Patriot’s Day 2019!
Thank you for your support!
Jacob “Jake” Hagerty
