SAVING DOGS, HELPS SAVE LIVES IN THE COMMUNITY:
Nearly 1% of Americans are inmates. 2% of Americans are in probation or parole. 50% of the 3 million prisoners in America are drug offenders. We spend an average of $35,000 per inmate annually. It can be as high as 50-60k in places like Washington DC and New York. More than many Americans make annually! YET HERE WE ARE, operating a program which shows TREMENDOUS success in rehabilitating inmates and addicts and providing real life skills and vocational opportunity, BUT WE CAN BARELY FIND THE MONEY TO STAY ALIVE. As we continue to grow, our mission is to continue to serve as many inmates as possible including expansion into the Juvenile Hall system. The money we raise through this challenge will directly impact setting up Bakersfield’s juvenile hall program, the first of it’s kind!
GETTING TO KNOW MARLEY'S MUTTS:
Marley’s Mutts is a non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, trains and re-homes death row dogs from Kern County’s high-kill animal shelters. In addition , we utilize the rescued dogs to transform people’s lives. Through the power of the human-canine bond, we empower dogs and people to live healthy, happy and productive lives. We have a highly skilled team that helps nurture, foster and adopt our dogs into new homes.
Marley’s Mutts does so much more than “just” rescue dogs. Additionally, Miracle Mutts is Marley’s Mutts’ community outreach and education endeavor, through which volunteers utilize therapy dogs for comforting interactivity, emotional and social enrichment, addiction recovery programs, and job-skills training for a wide range of youth and adult populations across Kern County.
