Join me walking in memory of May. I know she’d love to see her friends enjoying a walk together around Jamaica Pond on Sunday, May 20th. Over her 14 years, May took many walks around the pond soaking up the sights, sounds, smells, and of course any petting she could solicit.
In our five years volunteering with FriendshipWorks' PetPals Program, May and I made many friends and meaningful connections. She brought joy into the hearts of the elders she visited each week at Sherrill House, a nursing home in Jamaica Plain.
For the third year, I will be walking in support of FriendshipWorks' mission to reduce elder social isolation and replace it with the warmth and comfort provided by caring and dedicated friends. FriendshipWorks' programs provide volunteer support and assistance to elders in Boston and Brookline, including one-on-one friendly visits, medical escorts, and friendly pet visits.
I hope you’ll support FriendshipWorks’ mission by walking, donating, or both. Your donation will help recruit, screen, train, match, and provide on-going guidance to the volunteers who provide friendship to otherwise isolated and lonely elders in our community. Together we can help more elders live a happy and meaningful life.
