FROM CATHY POWERS:
"My healing journey continues, one step at a time. This is literally A MARATHON OF HEALING!
I am running the "43rd Annual PURPOSE AND PRIDE Marine Corps Marathon" with TEAM USO of North Carolina, on Saturday, 28-OCT, 2018. YES, the full 26.2 miles!
Most of you already know how much I enjoy being a volunteer for the USO of NC, so today I would like to take a minute to tell you exactly WHY they are so important to me.
The USO of NC is the last place our family was able to spend time together before our son left to serve another year overseas in the Ar Force. We were able to join Bryce in the Charlotte Center USO (inside the airport) for about an hour before his flight boarded. We had such a great time together. We laughed, shared some snacks and drinks, and said our, "see ya later's." I remember it was a nice, comfortable place to relax and spend some quality time together. At the time, we had no idea he would never be coming home the same again, or that he would pass away the following year. Those precious moments with him remain priceless.
After he passed away, he was dressed in his uniform and flown home for his Celebration of Life Ceremony. He arrived right back where he had started, here in Charlotte. I remember standing out on the tarmac waiting for his casket to come down the baggage ramp. Some of the worst minutes of my life. It was our family, our Military family, and our USO family, that stood there weeping together as we received him home. Again, precious moments that will forever remain priceless.
The USO of NC is known for "making a difference in the lives of our service members and their families." I can tell you first hand this is a true statement, they sure have made a difference in our lives and I want to help them continue their mission!"
TRIBUTE TO A HERO MARINE:
Sgt. Tyler J. Skelly, my favorite Marine, I'm running for you and your beautiful Momma. Thank you for your Service and Sacrifice for our Nation. I know you and Bryce are together and safe. We'll see you again. RIP HERO. 03/03/88-04/29/14.
FROM THE MARINE CORPS MARATHON PAGE:
"Recognized for impeccable organization on a scenic course managed by the US Marines in Arlington, VA and the nation's capital, the Marine Corps Marathon is one of the largest marathons in the US and the world. Known as 'the best marathon for beginners,' the MCM is the largest marathon in the world that doesn't offer prize money, earning its nickname, “The People's Marathon.”
