We have the meals. Help us with the wheels.
Everybody Knows Meals On Wheels
We’re the ones out there on the road every day, delivering hot, nutritious meals to the homebound seniors of Ocean County, New Jersey.
You may also have heard about us in the news lately for a potential cut in funding to our vital work. Meals On Wheels fills a large gap in social services that would otherwise fall to Federal, State, County and Municipal taxpayers…basically, you.
Meals and So Much More
Imagine…you live far from your parents or grandparents. There’s no one that can check in daily to make sure they’re ok, or even say hi. That’s a big part of our job. Our Meals on Wheels drivers get to know our clients, becoming a regular, friendly face. Not to mention a daily reassurance and wellness check on your loved one.
We are dedicated to ensuring our homebound seniors continue to age with dignity by allowing them to manage their own lives, and remain active and independent in the place they’re most comfortable—their home.
We asking you to donate to help us purchase a new Meals On Wheels Van. Why? Because you can’t have Meals On Wheels without functioning wheels.
$10 – The amount that it costs per mile to make and deliver a meal.
$25 – The average miles per drivers’ route.
$50 – The amount a senior is asked to donate toward their meals for one month.
$125 – The average miles per route in one week.
We Drive How Much?
Every year, Ocean County Meals On Wheels vans drive the equivalent of nearly 15 trips around the equator! 360,000 miles, delivering 250,000 meals. You don’t need to be a mechanic to realize the wear and tear that puts on our vehicles.
The Importance of Home
Every senior we provide meals for is a senior that can stay living at home, instead of a nursing facility. Keeping seniors in their own house spares taxpayers from the burden of paying for state-run care. The work we do is vital. Let’s keep our seniors in the place they love most…their home, surrounded by their most cherished memories.
