I'm raising money to create kits to make it easier for personnel on aircraft carriers to observe the Jewish mitzvot, or commandments. The kits will include a bible, a prayerbook, a kippah, a bentscher book with the prayer after meals, a card with the traveller's prayer, spices for the ceremony at the end of shabbat, electric shabbat candles (since open flames are not allowed on aircraft carriers), and a bag to keep everything in. I'm designing the items with a special aircraft carrier logo!
It's so important that Jews can practice their religion when they're out at sea, because there aren't a lot of observant Jews on the ships, and there's no one that's going to tell them when it's time to do a mitzvah. The sailors and airmen should have supplies to make keeping the commandments as easy as possible, because they're working around the clock to keep us safe.
I'm planning on sending about 25 kits, (or as many as the ship's chaplain requests) to each of the 11 aircraft carriers: the USS Theodore Roosevelt, the USS Nimitz, the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, the USS Carl Vinson, the USS Abraham Lincoln, the USS George Washington, the USS John C. Stennis, the USS Harry S. Truman, the USS Ronald Reagan, the USS George H.W. Bush, and the USS Gerald R. Ford.
Please donate to my fund to create these mitzvah kits! a donation of $25 will fund one kit, and $250 will fund kits for a minyan.
