Transitioning from youth to adulthood can be a stressful time for young people. This stage of life can be challenging, especially for young people of differing abilities, who often face unique barriers to making this transition successfully. One such barrier is preparing for and securing employment. In fact, the unemployment rate for differently-abled youth ages 20 to 24 is significantly higher than that of youth without a disability – 19.5 percent and 8.1 percent, respectively. Melwood advocates for and empowers individuals of differing abilities to transform their own lives through unique opportunities to work and play in the community. Melwood’s workforce development programs help transitioning youth prepare for life ahead. Through professional development training, career exploration, job coaching, and job placement, these emerging adults receive the support they need to become productive workers.
Melwood offers professional development services at no charge to participants. The cost for one youth to complete the program is $3,000. Our goal for this campaign is to raise funds for five (5) more youth to attend the program. Your donation will help us reach our target. Together, we can help five more youth with a differing ability, enter the workforce with the skill and self-confidence to thrive. Give today.
