Over the past 20 years...
MESA’s work educating farmers has made incredible impacts in the lives of thousands of farmers from around the world. Our experiential exchange, horizontal learning, hands-on on-farm training, and accessible online platform provide resources and experiences for farmers of all kinds, resulting in increased knowledge, skills, confidence, and commitment to sustainable farming and food production.
I have learned that I am finally ready to start my own sustainable farming project and also open learning classes to teach my fellow south Africans about the importance of organic farming and how it helps save our already endangered planet.
-2016/2017 MESA Steward from South Africa
With recent immigration policy changes, an uprise in racial violence, and increasing health concerns for people, our planet, and our current food system, we are facing increasing obstacles in our mission to cultivate a global grassroots network of food and farming leaders dedicated to reviving community food systems. And yet, now is when we most need to build international solidarity, cross-cultural understanding, and anti-oppression approaches in agriculture and beyond. MESA remains committed to that vision.
My experience with MESA has been an opportunity to get to know people from around the world and learn about their unique practices. I've learned more from our MESA Stewards than from any other person on our farm. It’s a powerful program that draws important connections for all of us in the future. In this interconnected world of today and tomorrow I think MESA has helped really kickstart the movement towards sustainable agriculture worldwide.

While these challenges make us even more dedicated to our mission, it also means your support is needed even more in this crucial time in MESA’s - and our country’s - history. This year, MESA celebrates our 20th anniversary with renewed mission and vision, restructured programs and governance, and a re-commitment to our values. Just in the past two years, we have launched two new program areas to expand and deepen our impact: the Bay Area Farmer Training Program (BAFTP) and the online Farm-Centered Learning Network.
BAFTP has done an incredible job of providing me with the support and knowledge needed to move forward in this industry. The amount of ideas/possibilities that came to me during this course was overwhelming!

I have now understood agroecology as processes that are applied to agricultural production systems that bring holistic life to the people, environment soil and everything that lives in the universe.

MESA’s commitment to providing training and resources for beginning, under-resourced, small-scale farmers locally, globally, and virtually is a commitment to building a more robust, resilient, just, and healthy global food system. The need for this transformation - and for your support - is more urgent than ever before.
MESA, 20 years strong!
MESA is ready to cultivate a new generation of sustainable farmers by scaling up our programs and deepening our impact.
Please help us to reach our 20th Anniversary Challenge fundraising goal of $20,000 to ensure our new and growing programs survive and thrive for decades to come.
Your support today sponsors a beginning farmer in a training program, funds an on-farm sustainability project, supports a learner in an online course - and changes lives, livelihoods, and outlooks around the world to achieve the resilient, just, and healthy global food system we are all working towards.
