I am so excited to share that on April 15th, 2019 I will be running the Boston Marathon as a member of the Mass General Emergency Response Team! Following the tragedies that occurred during the 2013 Boston Marathon, MGH was given 40 entries for this team to fundraise for emergency preparedness and disaster response. I am ecstatic to be running as a part of this team.
Growing up in Massachusetts, it was always a dream of mine to run the Boston Marathon myself someday. Being given the opportunity to run for MGH is not only fulfilling my athletic goals, but also allowing me to support the organization which allows me to do the work I love. Over the past year, I have been working as a Community Health Worker at MGH Chelsea Healthcare Center. I have been granted the opportunity to work with some of the most medically and socially complex populations, helping them to address the social determinants of health in order to achieve better health outcomes. The chance to interact with this community has reminded me how fortunate I am in so many ways, and I want to use that privilege to support the most vulnerable patients. To represent such an impactful organization in the marathon is really an honor.
The training will be tough, but with your encouragement I'm looking forward to race day! All donations will contribute to MGH's ability to provide effective and efficient emergency and disaster response. Thank you all for your support and please donate if you can, any amount helps!
