On April 15, 2019 I will be lacing up and toeing the starting line of the Boston Marathon for the third time (yes I know, first I said one and done, then I said maybe two, now I'm saying third times a charm ) This time I will run 26.2 miles to raise funds for the MGH Pediatric Hematolgy Oncology Team to run for a cure for pediatric cancers. I was just 9 years old when my mom told me my 16 year old cousin had been diagnosed with cancer. I had no idea then what was ahead but I watched multiple of my loved ones lives change forever. As a pediatric nurse I have met so many wonderful young men and women who have grown up too fast because they have first hand experience as cancer patients. As a child I witnessed birthdays and holidays in the hospital; now as a nurse I help celebrate the milestones while in the hospital. On my birthday I will run for all those who no longer have the chance to celebrate another birthday, I will run for all those who have to get chemotherapy, radiation, blood draws on their birthdays, and I will run to raise money so that all children with cancer have another birthday!! Pediatric cancers receive approximately a mere 4% of funding working for research and cure.....I know we can do better! I have been blessed with many things in my life and one of my greatest treasures are my friends and family , so now I'm asking all of you to help support this amazing team. With your support I know we can get closer to a cure!! Thank you all for your support, it is greatly appreciated! Let the countdown begin.....closer to a cure!!!
