On July 16, 2018 my 28-year-old nephew Patrick Doherty lost his battle to stomach cancer. Patrick battled the disease with courage and with every ounce of fight that he could muster up and despite the extreme pain and discomfort he tried to carry on, whether it was helping to coach my son’s youth baseball game on a cold, rainy spring night or attending his best friend’s wedding after a day of chemo, he continued his fight.
Patrick was cared for at MassGeneral Hospital and so on April 15th, 2019 I will be running my fifth Boston Marathon in memory of Patrick and on behalf of the MassGeneral Hospital pediatric hematology-oncology team and their amazing caregivers who work with patients to fight the battle that Patrick and so many others have and are fighting everyday.
I am honored to be part of the MassGeneral Marathon Team Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time which has raised over $14 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). All funds raised are directed to cancer care, research, and initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
My committement to this amazing cause is to raise over $10,000 and I am thankful to you for considering a donation.
