So if you don't already know I am headed to Nicaragua in a few weeks as part of a volunteer program with Waves for Development. This organisation helps to combine travellers love of surfing and volunteering. With your help, all the money I raise will go directly to expenses related to the WAVES programs in the communities where they serve. Examples of these expenses include educational materials, maintenance of their surf equipment and snacks for events. It also helps pay their small team of staff, cover local transportation, and cover grants from WAVES International.
What will I be doing?
There are many different types of projects and opportunities I can lend a hand to. Some options include: The Center for the Arts, the CREA Program, English Language Teaching, the “Learning Garden”, the Medical Clinic, the “Paint the Town” Project, Kid’s Sports Programs, Environmental / Wildlife Education and Beach Clean Ups.
So who are WAVES?
WAVES stands for Water, Adventure, Volunteering, Education and Sustainability. This international non-profit seeks to create life-enriching experiences in coastal communities through education programs that develop youth into healthy and empowered adults. This is facilitated through surf voluntourism programs that engage travellers and transform their views of the world and themselves.
I am super excited to be a part of this program and can't wait to share my journey with you.
Any bit of support will go a long way whether it be in the form of a donation or wishing me good luck :)
