Hello friends, As I run, I realize that running is a journey of a constant promise to yourself.
"Ok, just a little more, and you will get there."
I am doing my first 5K in Prospect Park, Brooklyn on Saturday, April 21st! It was initially my goal to start exercising again, but also decided to sign up after learning more about CAMBA, an non-profit organization that empowers students to break a cycle of poverty through education.
CAMBA helps break the generational cycle of poverty by funding programs that guide students entering high school through the academic and application process so they can achieve success in college. Also, whether it is emergency food, a safe and permanent home, or a new job, clients in CAMBA’s programs are connected to the supports they need in order to transform their lives.
I passionately believe in education. It was through education and a supportive and safe community around me (like you guys!) that allowed me to break free and be where I am today as an artist and an educator. That's why I love teaching my students, as I believe in their potential and human right for them to become fully of who they can be.
I will be running 5K in April thinking about students who are underprivileged, who are fighting hard to break out of their normalcy of poverty, growing themselves with dreams and hopes to have a life that is full, which is everyone's deserving right.
If you feel drawn to donate, please do so! I would be so appreciative you being in spirit with me for CAMBA and its community as I run.
My best with love, Gyun
