A person's destiny is everything that happens to them during their life, including what will happen in the future, especially when it is considered to be controlled by someone or something else. Our destiny was unified on a cruise and it has developed into our scheduled wedding in October 2018.
As we all know, every story has a challenge and we experienced the most challenging event of our lives in March 2017. Naara was diagnosed with stage IIB breast cancer and we were all shocked. Naara was so young to be diagnosed, considering she is very active and is a US Army Veteran with multiple combat tours. Nothing could prepare Naara for what was ahead after being diagnosed. She made mention, that this was worse than any “bad day” in Iraq.
From March 2017 to October 2017, the bond between us grew and we never left each other’s side. Naara was strong and positive during her double Mastectomy and full breast reconstruction on both sides. In order to have implants with no tissue and just breast skin, you must have expanders “installed” during the Mastectomy. Each week the expanders must be filled with saline to expand the breast tissue and make them look more natural, then you wait three months for the actual implants to be placed. It was a 4 month painful process. With her genetics testing and eliminating all possibilities of return cancer, she decided to also have a full hysterectomy. Doctors wanted to eliminate as much estrogen as possible. She has endured 3 major surgeries in 7 months. In any wars, the military can train and be fully prepared to fight, but the battles with cancer is amongst ourselves. With support of loved ones and prayers we can conquer and overcome. We are proud to announce that Naara’s surgery was negative from the lymph nodes and no other cancer has been detected in tests and surgeries which resulted with no CHEMO needed (just estrogen blockers). To celebrate this glorious event, we were engaged on October 31, 2017
As we continue our journey towards our marriage in 2018, we wanted to inform you that Naara’s only wish for a bridal shower is donate 100% gifts to My Hope Chest. The theme for her bridal shower is a “Pink Party.” We believe this is worth more than any gift Naara can receive at her bridal shower.
I then decided for more opportunities in donations that we really do not need a wedding shower either. We will combine the two showers and give 100% donations to My Hope Chest.
Naara is blessed to have a great job with good insurance but it pained her to think, what about those that are less fortunate? How can they pay for reconstructive surgery? We knew that no blender or cookware would be as great of a gift as to give someone struggling with breast cancer the opportunity to be beautiful….
Please find it in your heart to give. Any help would go along way.
