The Role of Social Insurance
For nearly a century, our nation's social insurance programs -- Social Security, Medicare, Workers' Compensation, and Unemployment Insurance -- have protected millions of individuals and families from falling into poverty due to old-age, disability, death, illness, and/or the sudden loss of a job. From the first day we start working, we contribute to these programs, and in return, we can all count on it.
Do you know someone who relies or has relied on one of these programs? Do you know what kinds of protections these programs provide for you and your family?
We as workers, employers, and retirees depend on our policymakers and leaders to sustain a social insurance system that meets the needs of a 21st century American society. As our economy and workforce changes, we will have to solve new challenges to maintain the levels of protection that each of us deserves in a capitalist society that carries great risks, as well as rewards.
Do our policymakers understand their options for providing the protections that we as workers and retirees (and our families) deserve?
**Can you give $10 today? Can you be one of 1,000 people to invest in social insurance education to help make sure policymakers have a better understanding of the programs that provide millions of workers and retirees with protections against economic insecurity and poverty?
Why $10? Because if we raise $10,000 or more with 1,000+ donors, we could win a big prize from Newman's Own Foundation! Your $10 could be doubled or tripled.
After you make a donation, please help spread the word! Thank you!
