Did you know that children who can’t read on grade-level by grade three are 74% more likely to drop out of high school—continuing the cycle of poverty for low-income students? These children, also, often hear 30 million fewer words than their more well off peers—increasing their likelihood of staying in poverty!
Shocking, we know.
It’s one of the reasons why on May 6, United Way of New York City's (UWNYC) SPREAD THE WORDS TEAM is cycling to help low-income New Yorkers. At UWNYC, we look at the full picture—helping whole families make progress through a two-generation approach that helps kids succeed in school while also getting parents the resources they need to become self-sufficient.
Join us—be a part of our fight for the future of NYC! UWNYC has been around for 80 years. We're the problem solvers, the hand-raisers, and the game changers. Together, we live united to create a city in which children and families can dare to dream and build a future for themselves—to progress from surviving to thriving. You can learn more at www.unitedwayNYC.org.
We know we're not the only ones who believe in the impact we can make—together.
Ride with Team SPREAD THE WORDS to fight for every NYC family's chance to thrive!
