Neal Bermas left a life and career in New York City to run STREETS International in Vietnam. Troubled by the extreme poverty he saw amongst children begging in the street, Bermas co-founded the organization in 2007 to prepare at-risk, orphaned and trafficked young people for careers in Vietnam’s booming culinary and hospitality industries. The free, 18-month-long residential training program has provided housing, meals, English language classes, medical care, clothing and support services to nearly 250 young people from all over the country. After graduation, 100% of the trainees have found employment, mostly at four- and five-star hotels in Vietnam, often changing the lives of their entire families.
