On any given night in our community there are men, women and children who do not spend the night in their own homes. They stay with friends and relatives, in shelters or in their cars.

Night in a Car is an annual event hosted by Heartline and Heart House to raise awareness of the challenges faced by those in our community without homes and to give our citizens an opportunity to help end homelessness.

Night in a Car begins Friday, November 9 at 7pm at Grace Church of the Nazarene in Eureka with an evening program that is open to the entire community and will feature the Dream Center- Peoria Poverty Simulation. This simulation will be a great program for all ages to participate in and allow for a better understanding of what it is like to live in poverty.

After the program, those participants who wish to do a LIVE simulation of what it might be like to be homeless can choose to spend the night in their own car in the parking lot of Grace Church of the Nazarene. We ask that each car participating donate $1,000 for Heartline and Heart House to support the experience and directly support the individuals served by Heartline and Heart House. The more people in your car, the more people you can reach and the more funds you can donate to the event.

What if it rains?

What if it is really cold out?

What if the car runs out of gas?

All of these things could happen—and it does happen to people living in our community who really must live in their car. It will all be part of the experience!

The event will conclude Saturday, November 10 at 7AM with a breakfast. All participants who sign up by October 15 and make it through the night in their car will receive a t-shirt stating “I survived a night in a car.”
