In partnership with Nikkya Hargrove, another Harboring Hearts Family Story Campaign Ambassador, we have a combined goal to raise $2,000!
Won't you join us?
Here's why I chose to support THIS campaign: Almost nine years ago, a friend of mine gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, but her daughter was born with a rare heart defect. Her doctors were able to do open heart surgery and save her life. She is now a happy, strong 3rd grader. I never forgot how scary and stressful, both financially and emotionally, that time was for my friend and her family. Especially for a new parent, to think you will lose your baby, is horrifying. But to have the support and generosity of a place like Harboring Heart, makes a world of difference for families who are going through such stressful and scary times. I want to help other families get through their surgeries with as much love and support as we can give them.
Nikkya's Story: In 2007, my mother passed away at the age of 42 from heart disease. What I know now, is that heart disease is the leading cause of death amongh black women! As fate would have it, my grandfather unexpectedly passed away shortly after. He donated his heart to a heart patient in need and gave the gift of life. Today, I take my health more seriously (and that of my family's). In a blink of an eye, life could change tomorrow for any of us. Today, I invite you to join us in reaching our $2,000 and give to this very campaign!
How will your donation help families this Mother's Day/Father's Day season: We invite you to celebrate the next 6 weeks with us and help to provide emergency housing support, transportation, and food to 15 parents as their child undergoes open heart surgery this year! Just like Evelyn's family (pictured above) - Evelyn suffers from cardiomyopathy. Her daughter, 5 year old Izabella, received a heart transplant at 18 months old. Don't way, join us this Mother’s Day, May 13th through Father’s Day, June 17th, and help us raise $25,000!
