Dudes and Dudettes,
My birthday is coming up on April 27, 2011, and I really have everything that I need. I am happy and healthy and I couldn't ask for anything more, but to help me to improve the lives of others. So no gifts... just donate.
In wake of the earthquake and tsunami on March 11 and subsequent nuclear plant explosions in northern Japan, I wanted to find an organization that would benefit these relief efforts. After doing some homework, I found that the International Rescue Committee was the top organization to donate to these relief efforts for its recognition as a tax exempt organization and the American Institute of Philanthropy rated it A+ for their Japan relief efforts, even higher than the American Red Cross (A-). 90% of it's income goes into relief programs with only 10% going to either fundraising or administrative costs.
Essentially, the International Rescue Committee is partnering with local Japanese organizations to address emergency needs for survivors. They are accepting donations that will be directed towards their relief efforts on the ground. IRC’s initial support is going to the aid organization Peace Winds Japan. The group has been providing shelter, water, sanitation, food and economic recovery assistance to victims of conflict and natural disasters since 1996. In response to the earthquake and tsunami, the organization has chartered helicopters and has been flying to the affected area with food, fuel, blankets, tents and other emergency supplies and will adapt their response as conditions evolve.
Thank you so much for reading and being interested because every little bit helps and donating to this cause would mean more to me than any other gift could. So no gifts... just donate.
